In this reading Jesus speaks clearly about who he is, his work to be done on earth, and how the Jewish leaders oppose this because they lack faith.
He calls his true followers and explains how anybody who threatens them will come up against his Father, God. The older children learn how the Jewish elders had different views on the coming of the Messiah, and how they hoped that he would come to conquer the Romans who had fierce rule over Israel.
